This Land is Mine

If you're confused about the controversy over Trump moving the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, you are not alone. But it may be the perfect time to revisit Nina Paley's video of Andy William's version of "This Land is Mine," the theme from Exodus. It tells the history of Israel/Palestine/Canaan/the Levant. If you can't keep up with the players, there's a viewer's guide at her blog.

Update 2021: Originally produced in 2012, Nina Paley herself said it's time to dust this one off again.

That's a great movie. Also available for download from her website if I recall.

The unfortunate thing is that while her movies are pretty cool... Nina Paley is transphobe and TERF of JK Rowling levels. She has said some seriously cruel things on her own website. Having read one of her screeds myself, it also sheds a different light on some of her editorial choices.

I haven't been able to watch any of her work after reading her anti-trans, anti-gay essays :(

Yeah, I don't mind sharing a bathroom with a trans-person, but if she does, I hardly think that makes her a hateful person.

"This Land is Mine" is a great video, it's even sung by Pat Boone.
The Volkswagen was created at Hitler's request so it should be shunned?
Bill Cosby produced some great work, but when he became a pariah so did Fat Albert et al.
Even if the aim is to prevent money passing from you to them it misses the mark.

This version is sung by Andy Williams.

I used to love the instrumental version as played on twin pianos by Ferrante and Teicher.

Back when I was still in school and taking piano lessons, I performed this with another student as a 8th-grade recital piece (without the over-the-top attacks and releases, of course).
